Parade Kicks Off at 9:30 a.m. Saturday!

The West Park/Kamm’s Corners Independence Day Parade, presented by the Kiwanis Club of West Park, steps off from Kamms Plaza at 9:30 a.m. sharp on Saturday, July 3rd.

Join your neighbors and friends along the 2-mile parade route, running from Kamms Plaza going east on Lorain Avenue to West Park Avenue, which curves back to Rocky River Drive. The parade continues south on Rocky River Drive and returns to the plaza. Bring the children and give them each a bag to collect free candy and treats! Asphalt Cinema Offers Free Family Fun!

Join us under the stars for family friendly movies on the third Friday of July and August at Impett Park, 3207 West 153rd Street. Enjoy a live music concert from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Download flyer here. On July 16th, Brand New Hat entertains with music that spans rock, folk, bluegrass, 40's, etc. before Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs begins at dusk. In August, enjoy a modern jug band, Smokin' Fez Monkeys, followed by Up.

Children's games and activities conducted by our local merchants take place starting at 6:30 p.m. Enjoy balloon creations from 7 to 8 p.m. and a bubble gum blowing contest at 8:30 p.m. The event is free thanks to our Asphalt Cinema sponsor, Fairview Hospital!

Please note! As part of our August Asphalt Cinema fun, a safety fair will be presented by the West Park Early Childhood PTA featuring free bike helmets for kids along with opportunities to check out City of Cleveland safety vehicles and engage in safety related activities. There will also be inflatables for the kids to play on. Free ice cream, too! Details will be provided in our next e-newsletter. This safety fair is made possible through a Neighborhood Connections Grant. (See below for grant details.)

The Kamm’s Corners Farmers Market -- A Popular Sunday Destination!

Shop from 30 fabulous vendors, offering farm fresh produce and products every Sunday at the market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the municipal parking lot at W. 168th Street and Lorain Avenue near Rocky River Drive behind Walgreens. While there, enjoy live music, cooking demos, and a health component.

This Sunday (July 4th) Alex Bevan, the (former) skinny little boy from Cleveland Ohio is sure to charm and delight with his voice, guitar, music, and stories. Eric Hooper of Hooper Farms will be doing the chef demo taking scallions from White Family Farm and stuffing them with ground chicken, fresh herbs, and sausage from Hickory Acres Meats. Wellness screenings will be offered by Manor Care of Rocky River Drive. On Sunday, July 11th, our own Executive Director Steve Lorenz works his BBQ magic along with Chuck Yarborough of The Plain Dealer. Chuck's Band, iTex, will entertain, too. (A small band with a BIG sound!) Returning is West Park Massotherapy with a $1-a-minute chair massages. And, horse-drawn wagon rides will return for only $1, sponsored by the Firefighters Community Credit Union, courtesy of YesterYear Horse & Carriage Inc., Geneva, Ohio.

The Paint Program is Underway

Sponsored by the City of Cleveland's Block Grant fund, the program is administered and implemented in Ward 19 by KCDC as our way of contributing to the beauty of our neighborhood’s homes. Income eligible paint program participants receive vouchers for free paint and prep supplies in exchange for agreeing to follow lead-safe work practices. Paint program applications are available now. Grant Workshops Offered

If your neighborhood group or non-profit organization needs funding to carry out a project, look into applying for a grant from Neighborhood Connections (NC). They host several orientation sessions for just such groups and encourage you to attend the Grantseeker Orientation and a Budget Workshop.

At Grantseeker Workshops, you get key information on the NC grantmaking process. Learn what the grantmaking committee looks for in proposals and get specifics on how to complete the application, including the budget. All applicants are encouraged to attend this session! Budget Workshops provide detailed information on how to complete the NC Grant Application budget. One-on-one assistance is also available to groups that have already started an application.

Join the 2010 Cleveland Heart Walk: A Non-Competitive Family & Pet Friendly Walk on Saturday, August 21st in Mall C, Downtown

Walk with 10,000+ participants from more than 80 companies who will raise over 1 million dollars to battle heart disease. The festival begins at 7 a.m. and the walk begins at 9 a.m. This year, you may sign up for a community team for Kamm's Corners! Simply log on here and click on "Find a Company" at the left. Find "Kamm's Corners" listed and click on it. Click on "Create New Team" to register your team.

On Saturday, August 7th, plan to join a 70's-themed Fundraising Party taking place at participating bars and restaurants in downtown Kamm's Corners! This event will raise additional money for the American Heart Association. Details will appear in our next e-newsletter.


Annual Town Meeting A BIG Success

More than 250 of our neighbors and friends gathered for our 33rd Annual Town Meeting, which took place on June 9th in the auditorium of Saint Joseph Academy. Speakers included Ward 19 Councilman Marty Keane and KCDC Executive Director Steve Lorenz. Both provided updates on current neighborhood projects and plans. In addition, local historian Ralph Pfingsten of the West Park Historical Society entertained the crowd with his knowledge and wit as he narrated a slide show, "West Park Then and Now."
