Asphalt Cinema: Third Friday of June, July, and August
| Many joined us to see a free
movie under the stars at our popular Asphalt Cinema finishing up our sixth season. This summer, we were at a new location: the YMCA's back parking lot at 15501 Lorain Avenue. The move brought added fun, such as free family swim time at the YMCA from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Also, children romped in the newly built playground adjacent to the site. Our August 15th movie was Muppet Treasure Island, with a Walk-the-Plank activity, coloring stations, and a treasure chest full of prizes from our Asphalt Cinema sponsor, Fairview Hospital. The outdoor festivities began at 6:30 p.m.
with other games operated by local merchants. Popcorn,
sno-cones, glow necklaces, and beverages were available for
purchase. Big Al the Clown made free balloon creatures for children from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. And, a bubble gum blowing contest with prizes took place just before the movie started at dusk. Mark your calendars for next summer to join in the fun! |

Asphalt Cinema -- A Success
Our neighbors enjoyed the sixth season of our series of free outdoor family movies called Asphalt Cinema this summer in a new location. We moved from the Southeast Quad parking lot to the parking lot behind the YMCA at 15501 Lorain Avenue because our former spot is now full of cars due to the growing popularity of Downtown Kamm's Corners. Hooray! But, the show must go on! So, all you need do is bring your lawn chairs and blankets further east on Lorain Avenue for an evening of family fun under the stars in our new location, on the third Friday in June, July, and August -- also planned for the summer of 2009.
A special thank you goes out to everyone who makes Asphalt Cinema a success, especially to our neighbors who enjoy the event. Thanks especially goes to Fairview Hospital for generously sponsoring our entire sixth season! Although free to the public, Asphalt Cinema incurs movie licensing and rental fees along with the cost of the movie screen, projection equipment, entertainment, and refreshments. Since our first season in 2003, it is Fairview's white laundry truck against which we have set up the projection screen for stability. We are grateful for their continued support!
There’s always fun for the entire family at Asphalt Cinema! We hope to see you next summer!
